John Thomas Sherwin Obituary
Sherwin, John Thomas
March 9, 1947 – April 5, 2026
John was the only child of Edra Hess and J C Sherwin of Tallulah, Louisiana. He graduated Valedictorian of his HS class and went on to study Chemical Engineering at Lousiana Tech in Ruston. He reluctantly graduated after a fun filled 6 years (and he had the stories to prove it) and went to work for the State and then Union Carbide. He left engineering around the time Carbide folded and started his career in retail sales, which he loved and continued in until his retirement.
His true love was music. His musical knowledge and enthusiasm of every genre from Jazz, Blues, Classical, Zydeco and Big Band to Trop Rock was unmatched. His biggest passion from 1998 on was the songwriters, trop rock and countrywide family of friends it has spawned. His expertise was vast and influenced the genre and the lives of all involved. He was an early member, past president and present Bartender (Social Director) of the St. Minnesomeplace in Paradise Club. He will live on through the events he has set up this summer. Sail On, John
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol, and his son, Chris and four beautiful grandchildren, his surrogate daughter Tuong (Tim) Setala, and 6 beautiful grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 7th from 4pm to 7pm at The Rabbit Hole, 411 N Washington Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55401. There will be music, story sharing, food, and drink in celebration of John’s life. Memorials can be sent to the Special Olympics (he was a 15 year Polar Plunger) or MAARS (supported by the Parrotheads).
