Frances "Cheech" Snow (Spicer) Obituary
Frances “Cheech” (Spicer) Snow, age 87, passed away on March 28, 2026, with three daughters by her side.
Cheech was born on September 9, 1938, in Isle, Minnesota, to Donald and Isabelle Smith. She grew up in northern Minnesota and later married her first husband, Donald Wayne Spicer, in Grand Rapids, where together they raised their four daughters.
Throughout her life in Grand Rapids, Cheech worked at several places that brought her great memories, including Red Owl grocery store, Mickey’s Café, Riverview Elementary School as a lunch lady, and Norwest Bank. Her greatest joy in work, however, came from owning and operating Cheech’s Café, where she shared her love of home-cooked meals and built lasting friendships with her customers.
On October 27, 1994, Cheech married Wayne Snow. Together they spent 16 wonderful years enjoying travel, camping, four-wheeling, and creating cherished memories with their blended families in both California and Minnesota.
Cheech had a deep love for cooking and was known for her incredible meals. She also enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee with family and friends, tending to her beautiful flowers, and relaxing on her deck surrounded by her family and her many plants. She especially loved having fresh bouquets on her kitchen table, thoughtfully arranged by Sue each week. Above all, she treasured time spent shopping, going out to lunch, and pulling tabs (she was very lucky) with her daughters and making memories with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Spicer; her second husband, Wayne Snow; her parents, Donald and Isabelle (Phillips) Smith; her sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Bill Gorst; nephew, Kim Spicer; son-in-law, Mark Richardson; stepchildren, Wayne Jr. “Butch” Snow; step son-in-law’s, Vincent Silvas and John Wright; step-grandchildren, Phillip Snow, and Patrick Snow.
Cheech is lovingly remembered by her children: Laurie (Scott) Kivisto, Carrie (Bill) Matzdorf, Valerie Spicer, Jennifer (Dale) Walcheski; and her chosen family, Jeff (Brenda) Mickle. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brenda, Jeff, Jesica, Josh, Julia, Cole, and Shellie; and her great-grandchildren Rylie, Jesse, Jace, Grant, Chloe, Kayla, Michael, Sofia, and Luis.
She is further survived by her sisters Ellen Trowbridge, Duffy Nemers, and Laura Doyle; grandson, Ryan Richardson; stepchildren Greg (Mary) Snow, Kevin (Debbie) Snow, Loretta (Harold) Bishop; stepdaughters; Rita Silvas, and Rhonda Wright; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; Her legacy continues through her many step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Cheech will be remembered for her warmth, her generosity, her love of family, and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her.
Cheech’s family would like to thank The Legacy of Delano & Hospice caregivers for their exceptional, heartfelt care they provided our mom and family during this difficult time.
