Norman Peter Watry Obituary

Norman Peter Watry

June 15, 1938 – March 29, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Norman (Norm) Peter Watry, who entered eternal rest on March 29, 2026, at the age of 87. A man of quiet strength and a gentle soul, Norm’s contagious smile and kind demeanor touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

Norm was born on June 15, 1938, in Fergus Falls, MN, to Nicholas and Olivia (Notsch) Watry. Following high school, he proudly served his country for four years in the United States Air Force. After his service, he trained as a meat cutter and moved to Minneapolis in search of new opportunities. It was there that a mutual friend set him up on a blind date with Mary, the woman who would become the love of his life. Norm and Mary shared 60 beautiful years of marriage, eventually building their dream home in Prior Lake, MN, where they raised their three children. Norm dedicated over 30 years to his craft as a meat cutter for Red Owl and Cub Foods before his retirement.

A true steward of tradition, Norm was the last original member of the Lakehead Harvest Reunion held on the Watry homestead. He possessed a deep passion for antique tractors, steam engines, and vintage farming equipment, volunteering his time and talents at the annual show every year. His zest for life extended to many hobbies, including gardening, birdwatching, canoeing, playing cards, reading, and traveling. He was a master of the grill and found great joy in cooking for his family. Above all, Norm loved doting on his grandchildren, never missing a sporting event, play, recital, or school performance. He leaves behind a profound legacy of hard work, compassion, and perseverance.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers, Gerald, Milton, Kenneth, and Marvin. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Mary Watry; his children, Mike (Kimberley) Watry, Scott (Mary) Watry, and Cindy (Tim) McGowan; and his sister, Doris DellaPaolera. He is also survived by his four beloved grandchildren, Olivia Watry, Taylor McGowan, Norah Watry, and Isabella McGowan, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Cerenity Senior Care-Marian of St. Paul and Brighton Hospice Services for their compassionate care in Norm's final days.
