Michael Francis Rolfes Obituary

Michael Francis Rolfes, 65, of Edina, Minnesota, passed away on March 31, 2026.

Born on June 17, 1960, Mike was a lifelong presence in the Edina community—a place he proudly called home and rarely strayed far from. Edina wasn’t just where he lived; it was his world—his bubble—and he embraced it fully. He loved Edina so much that he often joked he was the self-appointed “Honorary Mayor”—he even had business cards made.

Mike's life wasn't always easy. At 18 years old, he suffered a traumatic brain injury in a motorcycle accident and spent 6 weeks in a coma before unexpectedly regaining consciousness. He surpassed all expectations for his recovery. He not only relearned how to walk and talk, but was an early adopter of the new technology of computers and went on to become a stay-at-home dad.

Mike spent 17 years working for Westin Galleria, where he was a dedicated and valued employee. Throughout his career, he earned numerous appreciation awards, a reflection of his strong work ethic and the genuine care he showed to both guests and coworkers.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Julie Rolfes; his brother, Paul Rolfes; and his nephew, Bennett Rolfes.

Mike is survived by his loving family: his daughters Jennifer Rolfes (Luke) and Carolyn Peterson (Derek); his cherished grandchildren, Tristan and Levi Peterson; his sister, Teri Vogt (Steve); his brothers, Pat Rolfes (Kelle) and Dan Rolfes, along with many additional family members.

Mike will be remembered most for the way he connected with people. He had a natural humor and an easygoing personality that made him friendly with everyone he met—no exceptions. Whether it was a quick conversation over a cigarette or a lifelong friendship, he made people feel welcome and seen. Mike was also a true “super volunteer,” always willing to step in, lend a hand, and support those around him.

He found joy in the traditions that brought people together, especially early Saturday morning family breakfasts—moments that became lasting memories for those closest to him. He also had a deep passion for the USA Cup youth soccer tournament, an event he looked forward to and enjoyed being part of year after year, making friends from around the world.

Mike’s life was built on connection—family, community, and the everyday moments that matter most. His presence, laughter, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In true Mike fashion, enthusiastically greet a stranger, grab a beer or enjoy a Saturday breakfast in his honor—don’t forget the Powerball tickets.

On Thursday, April 16, in informal wake will be held at daughter Jennifer's house 6-8 pm.  Please call 952-992-0070 for the address. A service will be held on Friday, April 17, at St. Patrick’s Church in Edina: visitation at 10 am, Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, with a luncheon to follow.  Live stream on date of service
