Patricia (Patti) Jean Hartmann Obituary
Hartmann, Patricia Jean (Patti), age 76 of Minneapolis, MN, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from lung cancer. Patti was born in Minneapolis in 1949, the third child in a family of six, having two sisters and three brothers. She was a proud graduate of West High School. She felt deeply rooted in Minneapolis and loved calling the City of Lakes her home. She worked most of her career as a legal secretary and carried her strong organization and communication skills with her throughout her whole life.
Her proudest accomplishment from a brief marriage to John Robison was her beloved daughter, Jenna. A fierce and devoted single mother, Patti took great pride in raising her daughter on her own. She also loved her extended family, including siblings and nieces and nephews. Yet Patti’s greatest love of all was reserved for her cherished granddaughters, Vera Jane and Paisley. She spent time with them whenever possible. She loved playing card games like Go Fish, King’s Corner, and Gin; joining in dramatic play with My Little Pony figurines; providing opinions on hairstyles; and learning all about their friendships, school, and extra-curriculars. She was attuned to their lives, as they were her world. She was their generous, sweet, and beloved “Grammy.”
Patti had a great gift for the art of conversation. She particularly enjoyed reminiscing with family and friends over food and drink at Minneapolis staples like the Uptown Bar, Nye’s Polonaise Room, and Jax Cafe. Her unique wit, intelligence, candor, charm, warmth, and empathy all contributed to her uncanny connection with people she considered friends. As one of them always noted, “Patti doesn’t just hold a conversation, she dances with it.”
Patti was a deeply thoughtful person who shared her insights and inspiration with others in both words and action. She believed strongly in the power of positive thinking, even in the face of illness and grueling treatments. She was courageous beyond words. She always favored the underdog, fighting against injustice wherever she saw it. She was an avid reader who loved a good novel, especially if it had a hint of inspiration (no romances). She also loved classic rock, especially the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan; classic movies; Bette Davis; flowers; ice cream sandwiches; and making her home wherever she was.
Patti’s favorite quote was from the movie “Harvey”: “In this world, you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant. Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.” Patti was smart, and pleasant, and so much more to so many people. She was a great person to have by your side, in your corner, and in your life. She made the world a more beautiful place and will be missed beyond measure.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Margie (Morisette) Fercho and James Hartmann; sisters Judith and Marsha; and brother Brad. She is survived by daughter Jenna Robison Andrew (John Andrew); grandchildren Vera and Paisley Andrew; brothers John Hartmann (Carolyn) and Bruce Fercho; and nieces Jessica, Cristin, Dawn Marie, and nephews Ryan and Anthony.
Patti’s funeral will take place on Friday, April 24, at 9:30am, at the Basilica of St. Mary Church in Minneapolis. Her ashes will be interred at Lakewood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Vincent De Paul.
