Janice Nelson, 94, passed away on Friday the 13th of March 2026 at Aspirus St. Luke’s Hospital. Janice was born on January 2nd, 1932, to John and Bernadette Gotchie, one of 10 children. She married Robert “Bob” Nelson in 1950 and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before his passing in 2020. Both were loved by a large family that cherished celebrating with them at holidays and other gatherings.

Janice enjoyed numerous crafts and excelled at painting ceramic artwork. Throughout her life she worked several jobs, eventually retiring from K-Mart in West Duluth. Her warmth, good humor, and generosity will be remembered by all those whose lives she touched through her nine decades of work, faith and community.

In addition to her husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by both her parents, four brothers, four sisters, and son, Jeffrey.  

Janice will be missed by her sister, Judy (Mike) Foy; sons, Albert (Cheryl) Nelson and David Nelson; daughters, Sandy (Dick) Kelly and LuAnn (Mike) Rich; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and friend, Curtis.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at Trinity Episcopal Church on April 18th, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Reverend Jane Quesenberry-Nelson will officiate.
