June Ione Berglund Obituary

Just four months shy of her 103rd birthday, never once admitting being older than 98, June Berglund passed away on February 28, 2026. She was born at home in LaCrosse, WI on June 23, 1923, to Marguerite (Hovland) and Clyde Ulrich. June was the oldest of five children. She spent some of her early years in the small town of Alma, WI, but the family later moved back to La Crosse. She graduated from Logan High School.

After high school, she worked as a legal secretary before meeting her husband-to-be, Robert “Bob” Berglund, in 1944, while he was stationed at nearby Camp McCoy.

Following his discharge from the Army, June and Bob were married June 4, 1948. They moved to Milwaukee, then Wausau, and then St. Paul before buying a house in Richfield, MN in 1953. June ultimately lived in Richfield for 72 years.

June liked to read, knit, solve crossword puzzles, and travel. June and Bob had been to Sweden, Finland, Hawaii, as well as visiting relatives in many other states. June also travelled with her sisters and friends on trips to Switzerland, France, England, Scotland, Wales, and Lichtenstein.

She is survived by her children Bob, Barbara Smith, and Jim (Joan); grandchildren Carissa (John) Veit, Emily Berglund, and Laura (Trevor) Berkley; and six great grandchildren. Additional survivors include her sister Barb (Dan) Diebold and many nephews, nieces, and friends.

Married for 46 years, June was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; sisters Judy Onsrud, Donna Musgrave, and brother Roger Ulrich; daughter-in-law Lynn Musgrave, and son-in-law Peter Smith.

Once, when she was asked where she would like to have people make memorials in her name upon her death, she said, “Tell them to keep their money.” Donations, however, in June’s name can be made to Richfield United Methodist Church, 5835 Lyndale Avenue South, Minneapolis, 55419.

June resided at Village Shores in Richfield for many years. The family would like to thank the entire Village Shores staff for their excellent care and fondness for June.

A memorial service will be held at Richfield United Methodist Church on May 3, 2026 at 2:00pm.
