Hubert J Wegele Obituary
Hubert Wegele passed away on March 5, 2026 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. A proud Bavarian, he was born in Burglengenfeld, Germany on May 3, 1936, to Josef and Julianna Wegele. He immigrated to the United States in 1960, to live with an aunt in St. Cloud. Less than a year after arriving, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving as a driver and interpreter in Stuttgart and Augsburg, Germany. After his service, he made his home in St. Paul.
Hubert built a long career in healthcare finance, first at St. Paul Children’s Hospital—where he met his wife of 36 years, Dolores—and later at Allina Health, from where he retired in 1997. Together they raised three children, Julie, Elizabeth, and Josef. He looked forward to taking the family on vacation every year and instilled a love of travel onto their children.
A founding member of both the St. Paul Soccer Club and the Eastside Soccer Club, Hubert loved soccer and cheering for his favorite German teams, playing cards with friends, skiing, and golf. Near retirement, he and Dolores bought a cabin on Big Lake in Wisconsin, applying his care and craftsmanship, creating a place for a lasting family legacy.
He is preceded in death by wife, Dolores; his parents; and sisters, Marga and Ilse. He is survived by Julie (Todd), Elizabeth, and Josef (Kim); grandchildren Krista (Noah), Jacob (Laura), Marlena, Isabella (Sam), Vincent, and Owen; and many beloved family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff in The Arbor at Lexington Landing for their wonderful care of Hubert over the last 16 months.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, April 26th from 1-4pm at the Germanic American Institute, 301 Summit Ave, St Paul. A short service will take place at 2:30pm. Bring your favorite beer mug to celebrate Hubert.
In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Lexington Landing Employee Appreciation fund, preshomes.org/give.
