Kathleen Ann "Kathy" Davey Obituary

Kathleen (Kathy) Ann Davey, 64, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter. sister, aunt, and friend, of Duluth, MN passed away unexpectedly February 21, 2026 at St. Luke's (Aspirus) hospital surrounded by her family and love.

Born August 9, 1961 to Gerald and Betty Ness, the youngest of 5 children. She attended Birchwood elementary, Washington Junior high and Duluth Central High School, Class of '79.

Kathy married her high school sweetheart, Rocky Davey on April 12, 1980 in Duluth. They would be celebrating 46 years of marriage this coming April. A true testament to the special bond they felt in their hearts for one another throughout life.

Kathy devoted herself to being a wife and mother to their 3 girls, instilling courage and compassion. She changed pursuits over the years as they suited her growing family, as raising her 3 girls was always at the forefront. Working as a seamstress for many years, she continued stitching her creative talents into many beautiful quilts for those she held close and causes she firmly believed in. She was a quiet giver and always a great joy for her to give one in surprise. Most recently Kathy worked at the Downtown YMCA as the Membership Experience Director, where she championed for  each individual with the same patience she had always shown her family. Always seeing the good in each person that she met. She was a safe and loving presence. You could always count on Kathy for an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, a confidant, a guiding hand, words of encouragement, and always willing to meet you where you were at.

During the warmer summer months Kathy enjoyed the outdoors camping with her family, taking trips up the Gunflint Trail fishing from her favorite spot on Mink Lake, to most recently enjoying a seasonal camping spot. Kathy enjoyed living the camper life with Rocky. A fun weekend getaway to soak up the sun and turn up the tunes. They loved a good road trip, always dreaming of their next adventure that hopefully involved NASCAR and a quilt shop.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Betty Ness. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years and best friend Rocky, her girls Lyndsey Davey, Jennifer Dull (Isaac), Rikki Davey, her seven treasured grandchildren Braeden (Steve), Rocklynn, Jaycee (Jerry), Boone, Bobbi Jo, Tyler and Nova (Tyler). Her siblings Jamie Freeman (Richard), Steven Ness (LeAnne), Julie Quinn (Dave), Karen Johnson (Jerry), nieces and nephews, and many others she held dear.

We would like to give thanks to the outpour of love that we have received. The stories, memories, and deep appreciation for Kathy has truly been an instrumental blessing during this incredibly difficult time. We  would also like to thank the staff of St. Luke's (Aspirus) for their incredible kindness, compassion, and care.

Her beautiful life will be honored in the coming months where all of those who loved her and those whose lives she has so lovingly touched can come together to celebrate her time here on earth.
