Mary E. Anglin Obituary

Mary E. (Kochendorfer) Anglin, age 102, passed away peacefully at Valora Senior Living under hospice care on Feb. 10, 2026.  She is survived by her daughter Jean (Wayne) Leatherman and son John Anglin.  She was a loving grandmother to 4 grandchildren, 8 great-children, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband (Glenn), her parents (Louis and Ruth Kochendorfer), her daughter-in-law (Gerry Anglin), her mother-in-law (Mary Anglin), and 2 sisters-in-law (Connie Chidress and Betty Phillips).


Mary was born October 4, 1923, in Springfield, IL.  She attended Springfield Public Schools.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Illinois State University in January, 1945 and a master’s degree in education from Bradley University in Peoria, IL.  She taught first grade in Peoria, IL for many years.  She once said that she loved teaching so much she would have done it for free.


She married her husband, Glenn Anglin, on Christmas Day, 1944.  After her graduation in January, 1945, she moved to Peoria, IL and lived there until 2011 when she moved to Minnesota to live with her daughter.  She was active in her church in both IL and MN, teaching Sunday School for many years in IL.  She was an early and vigilant recycler, even in the early days when she had to drive 20 miles to a recycling center.  She was a lifelong reader and loved to gift books to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


A Celebration of Life will be held on April 18, 2026 at Peace United Methodist Church, 5050 Hodgson Road, Shoreview, MN 55113.  Visitation at 3pm; service at 4pm, reception following service.
