Mary Elizabeth Heggernes, 71, passed away on February 8, 2026. Born March 10, 1954, in Mineola, New York, to George Anthony Hamernick and Betty Mae DeRosier, Mary lived a life centered on faith, family, and service.
After living in New York, Japan, Alaska, and Minnesota, she settled in Woodbury, Minnesota, where she and her husband of 43 years, Steven John Heggernes, raised five beautiful children and created a home filled with warmth and laughter.
Mary earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education and Health from the University of Minnesota and worked as a teacher, in aviation coordination, and event catering. She loved being a mom, sewing and dancing. She found joy singing as a soprano with The 3M Music Makers, generously sharing her faith and uplifting spirit through music.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Steven John Heggernes; her children, Barbara Heggernes; Julia Morrison (Travis Morrison); Karen Heggernes (Briana Brady); Roy Heggernes; and Elijah Heggernes; and her cherished grandchildren, Jack Heggernes, Conner Morrison, Logan Morrison, and Layne Brady-Heggernes. Mary will be remembered for her radiant spirit and angelic voice.
The Funeral will be held at St. Ambrose Church, 4125 Woodbury Drive, Woodbury, MN, on February 24, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. and a Reception at 12:00 p.m. There will be a private internment service at a later date.
