Betsey Aurelia McKay (Haugerud) of Saint Paul, Minnesota, died peacefully at Cerenity Care Center on 01/27/26.
Betsey was born May 31, 1943, in Decorah, Iowa, and grew up on the family farm in Harmony, Minnesota. After she graduated from Harmony High School, she attended Mankato State in Mankato, Minnesota. She met and married George McKay and headed to New Jersey. She finished her education degree at Centenary College. She eventually worked for AT&T and, after many years, transferred and moved back to Minnesota. After retiring in 2007, she spent several years living in New York City, then Florida, before moving back to Minnesota in 2013.
Throughout her life, she loved to read, garden, and watch the MN Vikings football and the MN Twins baseball. She enjoyed fishing, bird watching, and going out to eat with a good glass of wine.
Preceded in death by parents Sherman and Anna Haugerud, siblings Amye Darlene Haugerud, Howard Haugerud, Juanita Young, Vincent Haugerud, Neil Haugerud, Michael Haugerud, Aunt Edna Haugerud (who had a major role in her upbringing), and former husband George McKay.
She is survived by her son Kyle, his wife Patrice, and their children Connor and Brendan; her daughter Amye, her husband Jeff Strunk, and their children Ireland, Gannon, Casper, Marcy, and Dublin; brother Wayne Haugerud, sisters Ramona Dorr, Monica Ford, and Sharen Storhoff, other family members, and friends.
A memorial service to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
