Manfred Wormuth Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Manfred Wormuth, passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2025, at the age of 90. It was a bright, sunny day, and he spent his final moments enjoying one last view of Sandy Lake. It was fitting that he passed at “The Cabin,” a place he dearly loved and where he and his wife, Linda, spent nearly every summer weekend for more than 50 years of their 65-year marriage.

Manfred lived a long, active life marked by resilience, adventure, and determination. He was born on July 8, 1935, in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, to Emil and Margarete Wormuth. Near the end of World War II, as Russian forces advanced, Manfred—just nine years old—fled Silesia in eastern Germany with his parents and younger brother, losing everything as they became refugees and eventually resettled in southwestern Germany. At the age of 14, he left home to begin an apprenticeship in surgical instrument making in Tuttlingen.

Seeking opportunity and adventure, Manfred emigrated to Minnesota at age 21 with just $44 in his pocket. Sponsored by Calvary Lutheran Church, he was welcomed by the generous Foss family in Golden Valley and quickly found work as a tool and die maker during the postwar economic boom. After only two years in the United States, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany during the height of the Cold War. There, he met and married Sieglinde Johanna Woegler in 1960. Following his military service, Manfred returned to Minnesota with Linda to begin their life together.

In 1962, they purchased a home on Gettysburg Avenue in New Hope, where they raised their three sons, Klaus, Mike, and Kevin. Manfred took great pride in his family and warmly welcomed his daughters-in-law, Laurie and Lisa, along with five grandchildren and a recently born great-grandchild. He retired in 1997 from Custom Mold and Design, and in retirement, Manfred and Linda remained active volunteers at the Germanic American Institute and maintained close friendships within the German immigrant community. They enjoyed senior fitness classes and friendships at the New Hope YMCA, traveled frequently to Germany, explored Hawaii and Australia, and spent many winter months on Florida’s west coast.

With deep gratitude for his life and love, we say goodbye to Manfred.

An informal celebration of his life will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Germanic American Institute, 301 Summit Avenue, St. Paul. Donations in his memory may be made to the Germanic American Institute. A short speech will take place at approximately 11:30am but per Manfred’s request most of the time is for conversation, remembrance, good story telling while enjoying a brat and a beer.
