Jean Marie Yonak, 92, of Edina, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026. She was born November 21, 1933, in Lake City, Minnesota, to Martin and Stella (McNeal) Olson, the seventh of ten children.
Jean married Joseph Yonak on June 24, 1954, and they shared 61 years together until his passing in 2015. They built a life in Minneapolis, where they owned and operated Court Del, a beloved sub shop, throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Jean later worked as floral department manager at Lee Wards (now Michaels) until her retirement.
A die-hard Minnesota sports fan, Jean never gave up on her Vikings, no matter the score. She started every morning with the newspaper crossword puzzle, and a good book was never far from reach. Her true joy was family, especially the spirited card games and competitive marble matches that filled her home with laughter.
Anyone who knew Jean knew her gentle spirit and ever-present smile. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and special. She would often say “If I see someone without a smile, I give them one of mine.”
Jean is survived by her three daughters, Linda Pietig, Mary (Jim) Zilka, and Lisa (Kathy Weber) Yonak; grandchildren Austin (Matti), Dillon, Casey (Michele), Joe (Erica), and Andy; and great-grandchildren Maeve, Axl, Henry, Hudson, Keeva, and Finley. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her parents, and all nine of her siblings, making her the last of her generation in the Olson family.
