Steven Fahrenholtz

Obituary of Steven "Steve" Kenneth Fahrenholtz

Steven “Steve” Kenneth Fahrenholtz, 69, passed away on January 16, 2026, surrounded by love at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Steve was born in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Ervin and Bethel Fahrenholtz and grew up with his brother, John. From an early age, he was curious and thoughtful, developing a deep love for the outdoors that remained a constant source of joy throughout his life.

Steve was married to Marcey Michelle Mente for 48 years, building a life rooted in partnership, devotion, and steady support. Together, they raised three children; Jenny, Cale and Rachel, sharing the everyday joys and challenges of family life while also making time for adventures, splitting their years between summers in Plymouth, Minnesota, and winters in Fort Myers, Florida.

A lifelong learner, Steve earned his PhD in Statistics from Iowa State University and spent his career at Pillsbury and later General Mills, where he became known for his thoughtful approach to innovation and problem-solving. He helped shape how the company explored new ideas and opportunities, mentoring teams and encouraging curiosity, creativity, and smart risk-taking along the way. Steve retired in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of impact measured as much by the people he influenced as by the work itself.

In retirement, Steve leaned fully into the pursuits that brought him happiness; kayaking, fishing, bicycling, camping, and bread baking. He loved sharing these passions with others, always eager to teach, explain, and invite people along for the experience, whether it was on the water, on the trail, or in the kitchen.

Steve is survived by his wife, Marcey Fahrenholtz; his children, Jenny (Tyler Gray) Fahrenholtz, Cale (Stephanie) Fahrenholtz, and Rachel Fahrenholtz; his grandchildren, Crosby Fahrenholtz, Sloane Fahrenholtz, Keira Gray, and Sylvie Gray; his brother, John (Margo) Fahrenholtz; and many extended family members and friends.

Steve will be remembered for his boundless curiosity, his love of teaching and sharing knowledge, his steady support of those around him, his passion for the outdoors, and his gift for storytelling which was often thoughtful, sometimes humorous, and always meaningful.

If so inclined, donations can be directed to the following charitable organizations in Steve’s name: The Gladiolus Food PantryH.O.P.E (Help Our People Eat), or to the Boundary Waters Advisory Comittee.
