William R. Hammerlund Obituary

William R. Hammerlund passed away peacefully at his home on December 29, 2025, at the age of 88.

A longtime resident of Burnsville, Minnesota, Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice Hammerlund. He leaves behind his children, Terri Montgomery, Jane Stiles, and Richard Hammerlund; his grandchildren, Jessica (Jim) Khambata and Trista Hammerlund; and his great-grandchildren, Rory (Indigo) and Dominic. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.

Bill was well known throughout the Twin Cities and surrounding areas for the custom homes he designed and built. A true craftsman, he had an exceptional talent for woodworking and could create nearly anything he envisioned, often sharing his gifts with family and friends.

After retiring, Bill discovered a passion for photography. He traveled extensively, visiting National Parks across the country and capturing images that preserved his love of nature and adventure. Even during his winter stays in Arizona, Bill rarely went on a daily walk without his camera in hand.

He will be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand on any project, his warm sense of humor, and his deep love for his family and all those he held close to his heart.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville on Saturday February 28, 2026. Visitation at 10am followed by a service and lunch.
