Rebecca Sue Treinen Obituary

Rebecca (Becky) Sue Treinen passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in New Brighton, Minnesota.

Becky was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, on June 14, 1955, to Ralph and Harriett Kraay, the fourth of five daughters. She grew up in Owatonna alongside her sisters Diane, Marcia, Carol, and Paula and remained deeply connected to them throughout her life. In high school, Becky was active in gymnastics, an early reflection of her determination and discipline.

She earned her associate degree as a physical therapist assistant, a profession well suited to her caring and compassionate nature. While working, she met Ed Treinen, whom she later married and with whom she ran a successful business for over 15 years. Though they divorced later in life, their marriage brought Becky her greatest joy: her two daughters, Erin and Megan, who were truly the light of her life.

Becky was a passionate reader and a devoted member of a book club for more than 25 years. She cared deeply about the world around her and generously supported many local and international causes, volunteering her time and skills with organizations dedicated to education, women’s rights and health care, food security, and social justice.

Becky loved to travel and experience new places. Her home away from home was in Guatemala, where she built strong connections, supported girls’ education, visited gorgeous landscapes, learned about the culture, and touched the heart of each person she met. Becky loved to play games, treasured time with her family, and was known for her kindness, empathy, and deep care for her friends, neighbors, and community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Harriett Kraay, and her brother, Paul.

Becky is survived by her daughters, Erin and Megan; her sons-in-law, Tono and Ritam; her beloved granddaughters, Isabella and Camila; her four sisters Diane, Marcia, Carol, Paula; her brothers-in-law Don, Wayne, Roy, Mark; extended family; her best friend Carla; and many other loved-ones.

Becky will be remembered for her generous heart, sharp mind, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her compassion, kindness, and commitment to others will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.

Memorial gifts may be made in Becky’s name to:

Limitless Horizons Ixil (Indigenous Girls' focused Education organization in Guatemala, daughter Erin's organization)

EPES Foundation/AHA (Preventive health education organization in Chile, high school friend Karen Anderson’s organization)

Planned Parenthood of MN

Second Harvest Heartland (MN hunger relief organization)
