Roger Upham Obituary

Roger Upham, PhD, was born on April 22, 1941 in Bath, Maine. He passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026.



A life defined by love, Roger was devoted to his family and to time spent together, showing care through his steady presence and quiet generosity. His kindness, intelligence, and warmth were felt by all who knew him. At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Carol. Their love story was vast and beautiful, built on cherished memories, lifelong companionship, and deep mutual respect. Together, they built a family rooted in connection and care.



He was a loving brother to Lisa Jones (Archie), Carl Upham (Janice), and Wally Upham (June). He embraced his role as a stepfather to Mark Hogenson (Nina), Paul Hogenson, and Kristin Henkenius (Jeff).



One of his greatest joys was his grandchildren, Ashley Hogenson (Drew), Catriona Clohessy (Elton), Michael Clohessy, Megan Henkenius, Jackson Henkenius, and his great-grandchildren, Everett and Elliott, who lovingly called him Pop.



Roger enjoyed a distinguished career in the field of mass spectrometry. He earned his PhD at the

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his post doctoral work in England. Widely respected for his expertise, integrity, and dedication, he took great pride in contributing to

advancements that supported science, research, and industry.

He found joy in life's adventures. He loved to travel, especially skiing mountain slopes and sailing open waters, experiences that reflected his appreciation for beauty, movement, and time shared with those he loved.


He will be deeply missed.



A celebration of Roger's life will be held on February 5th at 1:00 p.m. at White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church.



In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Roger's memory with a donation to White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church or the White Bear Area Food Shelf, organizationsthat reflect his values of community and care.
