David Albert Anderson Obituary

David Albert Anderson passed away on January 2nd, 2026 at the age of 77. He was a resident of the Minneapolis Veterans Home.

Born July 3, 1948 in Big Fork, MN, he was the loving son of Donald and Elsie (Huju) Anderson. He spent a happy childhood tromping through the woods near his home in Effie, catching fish, hunting, and creating the seeds for many adventure stories (some true) shared in his later years.

Dave graduated from Bemidji State University in May, 1970 with an Accounting/Teaching degree and forever heckled his children that they did not follow in his footsteps and attend his Alma Mater.

Following graduation, Dave was persuaded to carry milk home from his uncle’s grocery store for a young women visiting town and his romance with Cheryl began. Courtship was rudely interrupted by his draft letter from the army and he headed off to Basic Training. The army couldn’t slow down his roll, and he and Cheryl were married December 28, 1970 just after Basic Training and together they moved to New York for his stationing at West Point as an MP.

Following his time in the army, David and Cheryl moved back to MN and he found his way into Telecom as a Cable Installer. He worked in various telecom companies for nearly 30 years stationed at various locations in MN and 14 years in Ainsworth, NE. He retired in 2002 and settled in Mayer, MN with Cheryl.

In October of 2004, Dave suffered a brain aneurism and, against all odds, survived and fought to regain his ability to speak, walk, and return to fishing. During this time, God’s hand was on him and his family and he was blessed with 21 more years of life and family.

Dave had an avid interest in hunting and fishing and was a great storyteller. He looked forward to sharing adventures, real and imagined, to all he met.

His faith in Christ was the center of his life and he honored God by his service to church, his family and community throughout his life.

Preceded in death by his parents Donald and Elsie (Huju) Anderson.

Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Cheryl (Venberg) Anderson (Eden Prairie, MN); his 4 children, Karsten (Dawn) Anderson, Kari (Lance) Kuhn, Krista (Dennis) Fling, Kirk (Sarah) Anderson; his 13 grandchildren Gustav (Abby) Anderson, Kate (Ryan) Wenz, Max and Annalise Anderson, Kaysa and Mira Kuhn, Trey, Lael, Kyria, and Terrian Fling, Isaiah, Izzy, and Ava Anderson; his 2 great-grandchildren Thorin and Henrik Anderson. Also deeply missed by his siblings Sandy (Ron) Evensen, Sharon (Wes) Waller, Ron (DeeDee) Anderson and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
