Gary D. Smith, 80, of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away on November 22, 2025, at NC Little Hospice in Edina, MN, surrounded by family. Gary was born November 2, 1945, in Grafton, IA, to Ira and Ruth Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim. 

He is survived by his wife Dianne and his son Brian; brother Bernie (Marilyn), brother-in-law James, sister-in-law Marnell (Stan); nieces Kristen (Jamie), Erin (Tony), Rachel (Aaron), Katie (Eric) and nephew James (Cierra); six grandnephews and one Grandniece. 

Gary spent his professional life as a CPA. Gary was a loving husband to Dianne, his wife of over 49 years, and wonderful father to his son Brian. He loved them with his whole heart, unconditionally and real.  

His friends can attest to his strong moral code. Gary was a man of integrity who always treated people with respect and honesty. An avid golfer, Gary played as long as he was physically able. 

Gary will be buried with full military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 11:00 am on April 24, 2026. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Methodist Hospital, Frauenshuh Cancer Center and NC Little Hospice in Edina, MN, for the kind, respectful and caring treatment they bestowed on Gary during his journey.
