Garry Vernon Mussmann Obituary

Garry Vernon Mussmann, born February 10, 1939, in Welcome, Minnesota, passed away on December 8, 2025.  He was the son of Leona (Babb) and Vernon Charles Mussmann.  Garry grew up in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa before his family moved to Madelia in 1953.  He graduated from Madelia High School in 1957.


He attended St. Olaf College for two years before transferring to Mankato State University, where he graduated in 1964 with a Chemistry degree.  The summer of 1964, he moved to Rochester and began his career at the Mayo Clinic.  He started in General Chemistry and later became Supervisor of the Metals Lab, a position he held proudly until his retirement in 2001.


Garry’s first marriage was to Barbara Mussmann (Blue) in 1959.  They had four children.  Then in 1981, he married Marcia Mussmann (Schneider).  She also had four children.  Garry enjoyed spending time with his family and attending events for all the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, boating and watching sports.


Garry is survived by his wife Marcia Mussmann of 45 years; his four children – Denise Morgan of Pine Island, MN; Danette Bruns (Jeff) of Rochester, MN; Ron Mussmann (Cindy) of Bayport, MN; Mark Mussmann (Holly) of Scottsdale, AZ; and Marcia’s four children – Scott Schneider (Cathy) of Rochester, MN; Eric Schneider (Emily) of Lincolnshire, IL; Shawn Schneider of Portland, OR; Chad Schneider (Lisa) of Madison, WI, 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, many other loving relatives and a host of good friends.


In keeping with his wishes, Garry’s body has been donated to the Mayo Clinic.


A Celebration of Life event will be held on January 18, 2026 from 1pm-4pm at Tavern 22,3401 Northern Valley Place NE  in Rochester, MN.
