SOSHNIK James Arthur, November 5, 1945 – November 12, 2025, James (Soz, Jim, Jimmy) Soshnik, 80, passed after a 13-year battle with Alzheimer’s. He was the 8th of 10 children born in St Paul, MN. He grew up in St. Mark’s parish and settled in Holy Spirit parish to raise his family after marrying Margee, the love of his life, in the summer of ‘69.
Preceded in death by adoring wife, Margaret “Margee” (Gates) Soshnik; father Edward J. Soshnik; mother Mary E. Soshnik; brothers Bobby Soshnik, Richy Soshnik, and Billy Soshnik; sisters Mary McDonald, Helen Walsh, Katie Meyer and nephew Steve Soshnik. He is survived by daughters Diane Burke and Sara Prescher; sons-in-law Pat Burke and John Prescher; grandchildren Jack, Charlie & Patrick Burke; and Lauren Prescher. Also survived by sisters Janet Rooks, Dory Spence, Carol Mullins; and many nieces & nephews.
He was an incredible pillar of strength, a big presence with a gentle soul, loved camping, birds, gardening, cooking, chimes, cigars, 70s music!, trips to Palm Springs & Mexico with his beloved siblings, played the guitar & harmonica, loved driving his motorcycle and old red Mustang. He rocked a mustache, was an avid runner, loved aviation, and spent 11 months in Vietnam.
Jim relished in the joy of his 4 grandchildren and was the kind of Grandpa who would get down on the floor to play.
He is back together again with his bride and many of his siblings, but his presence will be missed and deeply felt by those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held on January 23, 2026, at 10:00 am Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina; Visitation 9:30 am; Interment with military honors to follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
