Robert Edward Miller passed away November 21, 2025, at 74 years of age.
Bob lived life to fullest. He was a man of many stories, much generosity, a curious mind, high integrity, and a truly kind spirit.
His path in life was unique and wound through a variety of locales and other lives. Work brought him to Minnesota and Bob soon made Minnesota home; planting deep roots in the community and connecting strongly with many.
Bob was indeed one of a kind: big in size, big in presence and big in heart. He was never afraid to challenge us to think harder and make things better. We will all miss his curiosity, his humor, and the way he stirred the pot just enough to move things forward.
Bob was preceded in death by son, Austin, and parents William and Maureen Miller. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Susan, daughter Ellen Mcalpin, grandson Christian Mcalpin, sister Anne (Richard) Brock, sister-in-law Linda Opava, a nephew, nieces, and cousins.
Dance brought Bob and Susie together and they journeyed through 27 years of marriage. As a team they traveled, entertained, and finally navigated Bob’s ALS. Susie became Bob’s primary care giver, daily reaffirming her wedding vow of love “in sickness and in health”. Bob was supported as well by a very wide circle of friends who made frequent visits and supportive calls. He felt blessed to have three kind caregivers assisting him as his disease progressed.
Bob found strength, hope and spiritual guidance in his Christian faith. He highly valued the friendship and support of the St. Paul’s Church Mens’ Group. Pastor Helmar Heckel’s weekly on-line bible study brought deep Bible exploration and helped Bob clarity his beliefs.
Hospice nurse Karen Bell, in her book Living at the End of Life, wrote these words which exemplify Bob, “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body. Rather one should skid into the grave broadside, thoroughly used up, completely worn out, and loudly proclaiming “That was one hell of a great ride!”
To celebrate his life, those of us who were lucky enough to know him, will gather for a service at 11:00 on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at St. Paul’s Church on Lake of the Isles, 1917 Logan Ave. South, Minneapolis, MN 55403. A reception will follow at the Club at Golden Valley, 7001 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, MN 55427. If you can’t attend, please take a moment to remember Bob and have a shot of tequila, only the good stuff, with lime, of course.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the ALS Association, Crescent Cove, or The Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi to grow and sustain the Miller Wing.
Bob was a true treasure who will be deeply missed. We will hold him close as we let him go.
