James R. Hastings, affectionately known as Butch, passed away peacefully at his home in White Bear Lake, MN, on November 11, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with several illnesses.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Norma Hastings; his brother, Mike; his sons, Danny, Brett, and Jimmy; and his former wife and mother of his children, Arlene Hastings.

Jim is survived by his wife, Wendy; his daughter, Liz (Dan) Hake; his brother, Tim (Darlene) Hastings; his daughter-in-law, Melinda Hastings; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Jim’s passion for the outdoors was evident from an early age. Growing up just steps away from Sibley Park, he and his brothers spent countless hours bonding through sports. This love for athletic activities followed Jim throughout his youth and high school years and continued into adulthood.

Jim enjoyed annual trips to Puerto Rico and treasured time spent with his wife, lifelong friends and family. Whether watching sports games, sharing laughter, enjoying a few beers, or spending time on the water at the lake with his brother, sister-in-law and their family in Brainerd, Minnesota, Jim loved and embraced all of these cherished traditions well into his later years.

Jim worked for Ford Motor Co. and was a member of UAW Local 879, retiring after 30+ years of service. He also spent many years as a part-time bartender at The Golden Leaf and later under the name Whiskey Junction.

Jim’s life was enriched by many friends, acquaintances, and family members. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met, and he had an exceptional ability to connect with just about anyone. He possessed a rare gift for fostering meaningful connections wherever he went. Jim was a beloved soul who will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina MN 55435, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 PM, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend.
