Chuck was born on December 26, 1935 in Valley City, North Dakota to Clarence and Olga Regine (Kittelson) Siggerud, and grew up in Mahnomen, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in civil engineering and went to work for the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a bridge inspector. He lived most of his adult life in Bloomington, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeannine, sister Marcia Nelson, brother-in law Norman Nelson, and nephew Paul Nelson. He is survived by daughter Katherine (James), son Matthew (Jaime), son John (Jennifer) and his grandchildren Liam, Molly, and Matthew Jr. He is also survived by his niece Lori Beth Warnberg (Kent), grandnieces Mara Sorenson (Carl and daughter Anja) and Sophie Warnberg, and his good friend Judy Meyer.

Chuck was a “roads guy” and a dedicated public servant. He was the State Construction Engineer at MNDOT before becoming Director of Public Works for the City of Burnsville. He finished his public service career back at MNDOT as Metropolitan Division Engineer. After his 1997 retirement from MNDOT, he worked as a consultant for Short Elliott Hendrickson. He also chaired an advisory committee for the University of Minnesota’s Center for Transportation Studies regarding the history of Minnesota roads.

Chuck received the 2005 Richard J Mathiowetz Transportation Advocate Award from the Minnesota Transportation Alliance, the 1997 Ray L. Lappegaard Distinguished Service Award from the Center for Transportation Studies, the 1991 City Engineer of the Year from the City Engineers Association of Minnesota, and the 1991 Public Works Leader of the Year from the American Public Works Association Minnesota Chapter.

As a dedicated father and active member of his community, Chuck will be missed by many people who benefited from his friendship and generosity. He taught his kids how to fish and throw a baseball, took them camping regularly and always participated in and supported their school and sports activities. He was involved with the Bloomington Amateur Hockey Association, Indian Guides, two homeowners’ associations, Fairview Hospital, Bridging, and several engineering organizations, among others. In his retirement, he focused on golf, his grandchildren, and travel, and always enjoyed going to see the St. Croix Crossing bridge which had taken up so much of his focus at MNDOT.
