Daniel Sheldon Pernula Obituary

Daniel Sheldon Pernula, age 71, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, with his two sons by his side. Born on March 12, 1954, Dan lived a life dedicated to family, education, and community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and integrity.

Dan is survived by his sons, Nick, and Jake Pernula; his siblings Judy Anderson, Diane Cobb, and Doug Pernula; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A lifelong educator, Dan earned his Master’s in Education and devoted many years to teaching. His passion for learning extended beyond the classroom—he shared his love of golf as an instructor for children and adults alike, teaching not only the fundamentals of the game but the values of patience and perseverance. During the Summers, he worked as a ranger at Links at Northfork, where he played hundreds of rounds and built lasting friendships during his 40s and 50s. Through golf, Dan was able to not only bond with his sons, but show them the ups, downs, and everything in between of golf and life.

Dan found joy in life’s simple pleasures: watching his boys play hockey, spending time with family and friends, staying active throughout the seasons, and sharing laughter wherever he went. He lived by the golden rules—principles that guided his life and continue to inspire his sons today.

After courageously facing Alzheimer’s for 13 years, Dan is now at peace. Though his passing leaves a profound void, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota. Visitation will take place from 10-11am, with the service from 11am-12pm and additional visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
