David T Barker, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Hastings, Minnesota, on October 29th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 1, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to parents Roy and Patricia Barker. He grew up enjoying the outdoors and attended Roosevelt High School, where he met the love of his life, Janet (Freeman) Barker. The two were married on January 21, 1972 and went on to raise their four children - Kimberly, Benjamin, Adam, and Zachary. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota in 1972.
Dave started his career in Finance and Accounting, worked many jobs in the business world, was an entrepreneur, and eventually retired as a Budget and Contracts Analyst at the MN Department of Corrections. Arguably his favorite job was working at the Xcel Energy Center as both an usher and a supervisor, after being a season ticket holder for the MN Wild. He was a sports fanatic - watching all the football and hockey games, and was even a Coach and Referee. He was also a member of the Dakota Lodge #7 and a Shriner in the Legion of Honor.
Dave enjoyed spending free time with his family at the cabin. Being on the boat, waterskiing, and sitting by the lake was his happy place. Traveling to Iceland, London, and Paris were just a few of his favorite trips, and he always found a way to go on a boat ride wherever his adventures took him. He loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was attentive, compassionate, and cared for other people and the stories they shared.
Dave is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet; his four children, Kimberly Boyd, Ben (Maureen) Barker, Adam (Andi) Barker, and Zach (Kari) Barker; his twelve grandchildren, Josh Boyd, Cody (Kayla) Boyd, Katie (Jake) Givens, Max Barker, Grace Boyd, Ellie Barker, Ally (Zari) Barker, Molly Barker, Nathan Barker, Erik Barker, Gavin Barker, and Miles Barker; one great-grandchild, Blakely, and another on the way; as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Patricia Barker; and his sister, Sharon Barker.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or the Masonic Childrens Hospital, both causes close to his heart.
