Laurie Beth (Watson) Burns, at the young age of 72, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, surrounded by the deep love of family and friends. Laurie’s life was one filled with love, laughter, learning, faith, and generosity. She touched the hearts of all who knew her with her kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit. She was truly the ultimate warrior.
Born on April 18, 1953, in Morris, Minnesota, Laurie grew up with a deep appreciation for family, community, music, and the importance of meaningful work. She dedicated her life to being personally and professionally in service of others. Her career in social work left a lasting impact on those she worked with and served. Laurie was the embodiment of a life guided by a higher calling.
Laurie is survived by her soulmate and husband, Curt Burns; her beloved children, Misty Burns (Geert Verstraeten) and Jackson Burns (Kim Lucken); and her cherished grandchildren, Amelia, Elsa, and August Lucken. She is also survived by her three sisters, Terry (Watson) Kellenberger, Sara (Watson) Haugen, and Annette (Watson) Wacker, who will forever treasure her memory and the countless moments shared together. Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth Watson, and her grandson, Watson Lucken.
In her free time, Laurie loved spending time with her family and friends, reading, golfing, going on motorcycle rides with Curt, and listening to the music of her son, Jackson. She was always a front-row fan at any of his shows! She loved to sing and had an incredible knack for harmonizing. Laurie will be remembered for so many things, but her beautiful smile, endless kindness, warm hugs, and sage advice top the list.
A celebration of Laurie’s life will be held Monday, December 1, 2025, 1:00pm, at Alexandria Covenant Church, 4005 Dakota St, Alexandria, MN 56308. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in her honor.
Laurie’s legacy will live on through her family and through the many lives she touched by living with intention, compassion, and purpose. Her love and light will continue to shine in all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
