Roger John Nelson, born June 6, 1939, passed away on October 17, 2025. Born in Minnesota, he spent his whole life in Minneapolis, and his last few years in assisted living in both Edina and St. Paul. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, served in the National Guard, and eventually fell into his dream job working in television and started working as a News Director with WTCN, then ultimately WCCO television where he spent the next 30 years and he loved it!
He adopted two daughters and was heavily involved in OURS (Adoptive Families of America). He enjoyed playing the saxophone, and had a love for the great outdoors, especially biking, hiking, and camping. He always made an extra effort to help his kids and grandchildren and always took a deep interest in the background stories of others.
Preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Virginia Nelson, and brother Larry Nelson, Roger leaves behind his children Kristen (Tim) Thilmany and Megan (Glenn) Nelson Brantley, his grandchildren, Kyra “Kiki” Nelson, Addyson “Addy” Thilmany, and Charles “Charlie” Thilmany, and his brother Tom Nelson.
