Burt was a wonderful, curious, dryly hilarious man who fought a valiant fight against cancer in his final days. He was a devoted husband for 64 years, an incredible father, a farmer, and an adored grandpa.
Burt could work magic with animals and children and could fix just about anything that needed fixing. He loved nature and the outdoors and championed its preservation. Burt was a tough nut to crack, but once you did you had a devoted friend for life. He quietly but generously gave to numerous causes to help uplift the disadvantaged or preserve our world.
The first son of Douglas and Ardina, he grew up and got tough at the family farm near Dover, MN. He achieved a Master's Degree in Education and was a science teacher and a quiet leader for 37 years in the Mounds View Public School District. Burt touched the lives of countless young people and earned the deep respect of his beloved colleagues.
And folks, he invented the dad joke (or at least perfected the art).
Burt is survived by his wife of 63 years Judy, sons Michael and his fiance Heidi, John and his wife Megan, grandchildren Haley, Marvin, and Nora, and his brother Clayton and wife Carole.
