Lois Ann Thompson Obituary

Lois Ann (Erickson) Thompson, age 95, passed away in her sleep on October 15, 2025. She is reunited in heaven with the love of her life and all the dogs she has ever loved. Preceded in death by her husband, James Robert “Bob” Thompson II. They were married for 42 years before his passing in 2003. She missed him every day.

Lois was born on September 8, 1930 in Portland, Oregon. She was also preceded in death by her father Martin Luther Erickson, mother Petra Dorothea Nyland Erickson, and all three of her brothers Martin, Jim, and Rolf. She is survived by and will be missed by her son, Paul, and her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John O’Shea. Lois’s five loving grandchildren will keep her memory alive, Samantha (Rich) Thompson Niemi of Pacific, WA.; Cora Thompson of Redondo Beach, CA; Martin (Hanna) Thompson of Knoxville, TN; Emily O’Shea of Edina, MN, Maren O’Shea of New York, NY, and her two great grandsons, William and Andrew.

Lois graduated from West Seattle High School in 1949 and finished her education at the University of Washington. She worked most of her career as a bookkeeper. She was an efficient accounting clerk in diverse fields from commercial fishery, hospitals, and wholesale florists. Throughout Lois’s early years she could be found on the mountain passes of the pacific northwest skiing, teaching skiing, hiking, or waterskiing in area lakes. Lois and Bob shared a happy home. They were proud mountaineers and spent much of their time in Rainer National Park at the chalet they helped build. She was funny, caring, protective, and unflappable. She moved to Minnesota when she was 82 years old after she had finished traveling around Europe with her beloved sisters-in-law. She wanted to be present for her grandchildren and daughter. She learned to embrace hockey, Twins baseball, and watching golf. She loved her hot chocolate, sweet potatoes, and a lovely glass of wine. She was cared for with all the love and care imaginable in her home at York Gardens. We thank each person who worked with and loved Lois. The team at Minnesota Hospice has been with Lois for the last two years. Savannah and Crystal have been leaders of a team of women who have blessed our lives. Lois has asked for no service. We will take her home to Seattle for a private celebration of her life with close friends and family.
