Gerald "Jerry" A. Seavey of Brooklyn Center, born October 8, 1932, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025.
Survived by son Mike Seavey, daughter Sue Seavey (James Carlson), brother Dick (Maureen) Seavey, sister Kathy (Jim) Hall, brother Kent Seavey, granddaughter Sheena (Ben) Jimmick, and great-grandchildren Oliver and Natalie Jimmick. Proceeded in death by son Dave in 2003 and wife Geri in 2016.
Jerry was known for his dry sense of humor, positive, can-do attitude, curiosity and lifetime love of learning. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather (he was promoted!) who maintained his humor and positive attitude to the end. He will be missed and fondly remembered by many friends and family.
Family
Jerry was born to Harold and Helen (Schroeder) Seavey and grew up in North Minneapolis with younger siblings Dick, Kathy, and Kent. He graduated from North High School in 1950. Jerry married Geri Bryant on June 7, 1952 and raised their three children in Plymouth and the home they built in Brooklyn Center where Jerry lived until shortly before his death.
He loved learning how things worked and could fix just about anything, once receiving a job offer from Sears after he was able to fix the combination washer-dryer (he regretted purchasing) after their technicians had failed.
Since he was young, he enjoyed fishing and spending family time at North Star Resort on Lake Kabetogama, which has been owned by Dick and Maureen since 1980. Many family photos feature stringers of fish and beautiful days spent on the lake, the dock, and by the campfire.
Following his retirement, Jerry and Geri were able to enjoy the travel they’d always dreamt of, Europe, Hawaii and the Eastern US. He would read extensively to learn as much as he could about locations prior to visiting, and at times visited another time to learn more about the area.
Career
Jerry was very proud (rightfully so) of his 42-year career at Honeywell (where he met his wife Geri) and his 18+ years as part of the Honeywell Retiree Volunteer Program (HRVP). He began his Honeywell career July 17, 1950, three months before his 18th birthday. He worked his way up as a technician and was a production supervisor for 29 years in the Avionics Division (and winner of the Harry Long Supervisor of the Year award). As a supervisor, Jerry obtained his digital electronics training evenings and later designed and taught over 250 technical courses at Northwestern Electronics Institute (NEI).
His favorite memories were of working on the Polaris Guidance System project, which brought the family to Boston for six months in 1960. Other large projects included the Minuteman, SR71 Blackbird spy plane, C5A Autopilot, F14, and Helmet Sight. Jerry retired in 1992 as a QA Manager in Instrumentation Assurance but continued teaching until 1993. Following his retirement, he joined the HRVP staff and served as Administration Vice Chair from 2002-2011. HRVP members were involved in volunteer efforts for community organizations such as food shelves, Meals on Wheels, hospitals, churches, and schools.
Jerry was also instrumental in organizing a group of retirees to form AirSpace Minnesota with the goal of creating a museum highlighting Minnesota’s contributions to the aerospace industry, in affiliation with the MN Air National Guard. Jerry’s record-keeping proficiency and dedication to the project were instrumental, but unfortunately COVID prevented its completion.
