Jeremy G. Nyquist Obituary

Jeremy died peacefully on October 8th with his daughters by his side.


He was born in Scobey Montana on 10-23-1930.  He moved to Milaca, MN in 1935, and graduated from Milaca High School in 1948.


He was preceded in death by his parents, John Samuel Sr., and Agnes S.; in-laws Clarence and Ruth Wilson, wife Clareen Nyquist, brothers John Jr (Ardis), Robert (Marion), Thomas (Margie), and sister Katherine (Don)McAlpine, son-in-law, William (Bill) Hunter and beloved friend Dr. Cathy Donovan.


He is survived by his daughters, Mary Nyquist Koons (James), Jody Nyquist, grandchildren Jeremy Koons (Vanessa) and Morgan Clayton(Cody), great grandchildren , Cameron and Grayson Koons and Sawyer Clayton.  Step grandchildren Sean Hunter (Lauren McCoy), Matt Hunter, Molly Hunter, Megan Hunter (Ben Loving) and step great grandchildren Kieran Hunter and Liam Loving, “grandchildren” Joy (Ben) Behrens and Shan Donovan.


Jeremy attended the University of Minnesota and received both  Bachelors and Masters degrees.  He worked for the Minneapolis public school system from which he retired in 1981.  He helped bring Talking Typewriters to the Minneapolis Public School System – the precursors of computers in schools.


He was active in his community.  He worked tirelessly on the Bluebird recovery Program by maintaining 500 bluebird houses on his property and participating neighbors. Banding nestlings, he was an early bluebird citizen scientist.  He taught many classes about building and maintain bluebird trails.  He helped restore trails in Ohio, Kentucky and Oregon, as well. He volunteered for The Salvation Army & the SHHH (Self Help for the Hard of Hearing) for many years.  He was proud to teach classes for 55 Alive to help older drivers maintain their skills.


He was active in the Wahkon Presbyterian Church and the Northern Waters  Presbytery. Lay Pastor with Presbyterian Church.


The memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 2 at Wahkon Presbyterian Church in Wahkon, MN. Visitation at noon and service at 1pm.
