Donald Douglas Hormel 

December 12,1946 – October 10, 2025

Donald “Don” Douglas Hormel, age 78, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Don spent nearly his entire life in Minneapolis and New Hope, building a life rooted in hard work, laughter, and love. A welder by trade, he took pride in his craft and was known for doing every job the right way — a reflection of how he lived his life.

He and his beloved wife, Susan Marion (Holbrook) Hormel, were married for 60 years. Their love was steady and deep — the kind of bond that defines a lifetime. Don carried their marriage certificate in his wallet every single day, a quiet reminder of how much she meant to him.

Don had a big laugh, a quick wit, and a heart that never stopped giving. He always had something to say — usually something funny — and he had a way of making people feel at ease, no matter who they were. In his later years, he was known throughout his building for helping others and treating everyone like a friend.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; his children, Jeffrey (Ellen) Hormel, Tina (Michael) Monsour, and Doug (Jenni) Hormel; and his grandchildren, Hans, Elizabeth, Sydney, Joseph,, Bronson, and Yuki — all of whom brought him endless joy and pride.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the North Memorial emergency room staff for their compassion, care, and kindness during Don’s final hours.

Don will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and the love he gave so freely. His laughter, kindness, and spirit will live on in the stories told, the lives he touched, and the family he so deeply loved

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025, 1:00pm at Cremation Society of MN, 4343 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis MN 55409. Visitation starting at 12 noon.
