Donna Marie Hammarlund Doyle, age 94 of Ely, MN passed away on October 11, 2025. Celebration of Life Service at Grace Lutheran Church, Andover, MN October 27, 2025, at 11:00am.

Donna Marie (Hammarlund) Doyle born July15, 1931 in Spalding Township, Aitkin County MN. Her parents were Leonard Hammarlund and Mildred Ella (Lewellen) Hammarlund. Her family moved to Minneapolis, MN when she was 12 due to her father getting a job at the Ford Plant. Prior to that he worked for the state of Minnesota Highway Department and was also a logger in northern Minnesota. Her birth certificate lists him as a farmer and her mother as a housewife. Donna was the 4th of 6 children. 

Donna was a housewife and the optimal mother of the 1950’s.  She loved to entertain, give dinner parties and luncheons for family and friends.  She was the Brownie Leader, the Cub Scout Den Mother and active in the PTA.  She was an innovative mom.  She cooked and liked trying new recipes and introducing her children to new vegetables grown in the garden.  She was an avid baker and loved her “goodies.”  She sewed our clothing; she quilted, she gave her daughters home perms.  Often during the summer months when all 5 kids were home from school, she would create “drive-through” lunches for us.  We would ride our bicycles past the kitchen window to pick up our meal and head to the picnic table to enjoy our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (on homemade bread)!  During the school year on bread baking day, she’d always have an extra loaf just coming out of the oven as we were coming in the door after school.  What a treat!  Warm homemade bread with butter and honey! 

As her children grew older, she went back into the workplace and eventually retired and loved spending time with her family and friends.  She was particularly happy when she was babysitting the grandchildren and even the great grandchildren.  She loved taking road trips.  One of her favorites was going to Florida for the Minnesota Twins Spring Trainings with her sister.  She loved weekend trips with her daughter Carrie and her grandchildren.  She lived in the Minneapolis, MN area for the bulk of her life and moved to Ely, MN in 2018. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Arnold Doyle and grandson Michael J. Ciochetto.

She is survived by her 5 children: Robert M. Doyle, Dorine Doyle King (Scott King), Timothy A. Doyle, Carrie M. Doyle (Robert Warden), and Steven W. Doyle.

Ciochetto, Renae C. Doyle, Laura A. Renstrom, Lisa M. Renstrom, Jeffery R. Renstrom, Gina R. Doyle, Loretta J. Chosa. 

Great-Grandchildren, Thomas A. Doyle, Jacob A. Harber, Luke D. Harber, Mason Doyle, Mircella Doyle, Kyler F. Chosa, Ariel M. Hill, Silas A. Hill, Kaiden R. Castillo, and Harrison J. Tucker. 

A special “Thank You” to the staff at Carefree Living and the Boundary Waters Care Center in Ely, MN.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
