Arthur Thomas Pedersen, 88, passed away on October 1, 2025.
Art was born in Chicago, IL in 1937 to John and Ane Pedersen who had immigrated to the U.S. from Norway in the 1920s. Devoted to the care of others, he was a physician specializing in allergy and internal medicine for over 30 years.
Art received his medical degree from the University of Chicago in 1962, and served two years in the Army from 1963 to 1965 following his internship at the University of Michigan. Returning to the University of Michigan for his residency and allergy fellowship, he met his future wife, Mary Duncan. They married in Ann Arbor, Michigan on February 7, 1970, shortly before moving to Houston, Texas.
Art and Mary spent 43 years in Houston where their two sons were born and raised. He was an allergist at the Diagnostic Clinic for 30 years, retiring in 2000. In 2013 he and Mary moved to the Minneapolis area to be near their first grandchildren and, as an ancillary benefit, their oldest son and his wife.
Art was an avid learner throughout his life, and particularly loved biographies of presidents, founding fathers, and other historical figures. He also loved nature and birding.
Art is survived by his wife, Mary; sons John (Laura) and Eric (Lisa); and granddaughters Anna-Sofia, Sunniva, Catherine, and Sarah.
Memorial service plans will be announced at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Nature Conservancy.
