Suzanne Woolsey Maurer Obituary
In Loving Memory of Suzanne Woolsey Maurer
Suzanne Woolsey Maurer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at The Legacy of Farmington, Minnesota, at the age of 86.
Born on March 17, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Suzanne was the cherished daughter of John Kenny Woolsey and Grace Laughlin Woolsey. She shared 65 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Joel Clyde Maurer, a love story that inspired all who knew them.
From 2003 to 2022, Suzanne made her home in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, a place she deeply loved and embraced as her own before returning to the United States in 2022.
A Life of Learning and Creativity
As a child, Suzy began her passion for the arts as a classically trained pianist. She accompanied the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra as a 10-year-old in 1949 on the piano performing Bach’s Sofegietto in what her mother would describe as her proudest moment.
Suzanne earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Minnesota in 1960. Her early career included teaching fourth grade at St. John’s Catholic School and serving as Director of My Care, a daycare center in Minneapolis. In her 40s, she pursued a new passion—Architecture—at the University of Minnesota, designing several homes in Deephaven, MN.
Her professional journey continued as an Interior Designer and Real Estate Agent for over 15 years. Upon retirement, she returned to her artistic roots, producing original watercolors and commissioned works that reflected her refined aesthetic and deep appreciation for beauty.
Community and Service
Suzanne was a proud and active member of several organizations:
The Women’s Club of Minneapolis
American Society of Interior Designers
President of the Garden Club in San Miguel de Allende
Dedicated volunteer with Patronato Pro Niños de San Miguel de Allende, serving the children of her adopted community
A Passion for the Arts
Suzanne was a gifted artist whose talents spanned multiple mediums. Her work included:
Original watercolors and masterful reproductions, including The Annunciation by Fra Angelico, commissioned for the Templo de la Purisma Concepcion in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
Award-winning interior design projects recognized by Midwest Home
Expertise in Arts and Crafts restoration
Her love for poetry, literature, and music enriched the lives of those around her. Known for her impeccable style, radiant red curls, sparkling green eyes, and infectious smile, Suzanne also had a wicked sense of humor and a lifelong love of dancing—joys she passed on to her daughters.
She brought elegance, warmth, and vibrancy to every space she touched.
