Lucille Baukner Obituary

Lucille E. Baukner

Lived a long and full life of 91 years, surrounded by loving family and friends.

She passed away September 13th, 2025.

Preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, James.

Survived by children Barbara Van Auken, Steve (Vicki) Baukner, Sue (Paul) Brost; 6 grandchildren, Erik (Jessica) Brost, Jon (Natalie) Brost, Luke Baukner, Jared Baukner, Joe Van Auken (Ariel Agmon), Katie Van Auken; 6 great-grandchildren Zacariah, Adley, Blake, Brighton, Cameron, Maximilian; many other relatives and friends.

She graduated from Osseo High School in 1952.

Throughout her life he enjoyed the company of miniature dachshunds with the original Queen Doxie being Schatzi. Followed by Charlie and Snoopy and tiny Tilly. Snoopy being the ultimate couch cuddler.

Her hobbies included a love for gardening, baking, canning, and cooking. From Ho-Ho cake, to home-canned pickles and tomato sauce, the Lucille's recipes will keep feeding her family for many, many years to come. At her homes in Crystal and Maple Grove, she grew vegetable gardens full of green beans, cucumbers, zucchini and tomatoes, every summer growing taller than she was. Lucille fought a lifelong battle against the neighborhood rabbits in defense of her crops, but even they will miss her.

Often during the summers you could find her at local garage sales, trailing a gaggle of grandchildren, always hunting for a bargain.

When she wasn’t wrangling the grandchildren, Lucille loved to crochet; her soft afghan blankets finding homes with relatives that still fall asleep under them to this day.

Lucille raised three children, six grand-children, and lived to meet six great-grandchildren, and she managed to love and be proud of each and every one, even if she couldn't always get all the names right on the first try. She encouraged them all to follow their passions and believed heavily in them.

From Katie: My Oma taught me a lot things over the years that are all useful skills. Like how to count coin change at lightning speed at the drive-thru before you get to the window to pay. How to know when a cake is done baking. How to make buttercream frosting the right consistency and how to properly pipe colorful flowers for the cakes. We shared a love of books and stories and often shared books back and forth. She always loved a good mystery thriller story. I am extremely thankful that she was able to meet my son Maximilian and play games with him that I had played with her growing up, our favorite being a matching game.

From Joseph: Oma gave her life over to taking care of just about everyone else in the world. My Oma watched me from when I was a baby; every memory I have of the first time I ever did anything, Lucy was there. She taught me how to take a bath, to sing a lullaby, and drink from a cup. She fed me almost every meal I ate as a child, and she was there after every day of every school I ever went to. Lucy gave us all so much of herself to carry on, her recipes, her stories, her small treasures, that I can sometimes forget she isn't here. Everyone lucky enough to have met Lucy Baukner is better for it, and all she ever asked back was a hug before you left.
