James M.P. Dougherty “Bam Bam”

September 25, 1987 – September 8, 2025

James Dougherty, lovingly known as “Bam Bam,” passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8th, surrounded by family at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis. He was 37 years old.

Born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis, James grew up with a heart full of kindness and a spirit of generosity. He graduated from Edina High School in 2006 and began working at FedEx in March 2007, where he remained a dedicated and valued team member.

James was a true backyard mechanic—always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need of car repairs. He did everything with honesty and integrity and walked through life with a gentle strength. James was a beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered for his quiet compassion, his loyalty, and the way he made people feel seen and cared for.

James is survived by his four children: Ryanna (17), Evan (15), Lexi (13), and Joshua (10); his sisters Marrianna (Danny) Weckman and Sheenah (Nate) Hamilton; and his father Mike (Cynthia) Dougherty. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews who adored him dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancee Dougherty.

James was a member of Bethel's Rock Church, 6300 212th St W, Farmington, MN 55024, where a Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 15th. Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a service at 3:00 p.m..
