Nancy Jane (Martin) Byers, was born on February 8, 1948 to Norman and Marjorie Martin in Brookings, South Dakota. She attended Brookings High School, graduating in 1966, and went on to study Nursing at South Dakota State University. While serving banquets on campus she met the love of her life, Craig Byers of Moville, Iowa. They married on December 20, 1969. Nancy finished her degree and graduated in 1971.

Nancy had a humble, tender spirit, and a nurturing nature that served her well during her career working in a variety of fields as a Registered Nurse. In addition to her roles outside the home, Nancy was as a homemaker and home educator. She always had a passion for reading and life-long learning.

Nancy’s favorite roles in life were that of wife and mother. Nancy was a devoted wife to her husband for over 55 years, loving mother to her three children, caring foster mom to 17 foster babies, and proud “Grandma Nancy” to nine grandchildren. Nancy treasured her family.

Nancy’s faith in God was at the core of who she was and how she lived her life. She had a deep, abiding faith in Jesus Christ and loved reading and studying the Bible. She enjoyed sharing her gift of music, at church and at home through singing and playing piano.

On August 23, 2025 Nancy went on to glory with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Nancy is survived by her, husband Craig Byers, daughter Shannon (Matthew) Hof, sons Stephen (Amy) Byers and Micah (Laura) Byers, and grandchildren Tyler (Allison) Byers, Anton Hof, Dylan Byers, Devon Byers, Elise Hof, Adeline Hof, Elsja Byers, Evelyn Byers, Estelle Byers, and sister Bonnie (Jerome) Langum. She was preceded in death by her father Norman Martin, mother Marjorie (Alleman) Martin, and brother Jim Martin.
