David Orin Smith, 82 of Duluth, passed away August 30, 2025, surrounded by loving family.  

David was born November 15, 1942 in Superior, Wisconsin to Orin and June (Olson) Smith. He was the oldest of two children. Dave was raised in Superior, attended Superior Senior High School, graduating with the class of 1960. Soon after, he entered the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He spent most of his working life in public service as a paramedic and police officer in Superior; retiring after nearly 30 years.

Jackie Marshall came into David’s life in 1993, they married and blended their families. They enjoyed motorcycling, camping, and traveling. Together, they amassed over 100,000 miles. David also enjoyed bingo, going to the casino and anything with his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jackie Marshall-Smith; children, Sherry (Pat) Querec, Bill (Kirsten) Marshall, and Jackie 'J.J.' (Jim) Fortin; grandchildren, Sarah, Kelly, Justin, Josie, Nicholas, Tanner and Rianna; great-grandchildren, Brody, Hunter, Breckin, Kyler, Declan, Cali and Blakely; his best couch-mate, Ozzy. Also survived by his sister, Georgia (Chuck) Skare; also many other relatives and friends.  

David is preceded in death by his parents, Orin and June Smith. 

A funeral service with Police honors will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 2 PM with visitation one hour prior; and a reception to follow at the Cremation Society of Minnesota-Duluth Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth, MN. 

Interment will take place with military honors at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Saginaw, MN. 

Cremation Society of Minnesota- Duluth is entrusted with arrangements.
