With profound sadness and enduring love, we announce the passing of Dr. Shelley Taylor Weier, 52, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, a devoted wife, mother, physician, sister and friend, who left this world on July 28, 2025 after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Shelley’s greatest joy and proudest role was being a mother to her three beloved sons. She was their biggest cheerleader — on the sidelines, in the stands, and in every corner of their lives. Whether it was early morning practices or late-night games, she showed up with unwavering support, fierce love, and a smile that lit up her face. Her boys were her heart, and she raised them with strength, compassion, and a sense of adventure that mirrored her own.
At her side was her beloved husband, Joe, of 16 years; a true life partner of unwavering support and the person with whom she shared her greatest adventures. Together, they built a life full of laughter, discovery, and deep connection — a bond that carried them through the brightest and hardest of days.
From an early age, Shelley showed a fierce independence and a deep empathy for others — qualities that would shape her life and career. Her journey through medical school was marked by resilience, grit, and determination. Her life experiences, both joyful and challenging, shaped her into a deeply empathetic doctor who connected with patients from all backgrounds. She listened with her heart, treated with her soul, and made her patients feel seen and valued; first in Med-Peds training, then as an internal medicine hospitalist and later in her career as a palliative care doctor.
Shelley also had a mischievous streak and a great sense of humor. She loved to laugh and make others laugh with her. She always found room for laughter.
Shelley was surrounded throughout her life by an immense and devoted network of friends — people drawn to her warmth, her wit, and her unwavering loyalty. Shelley nurtured friendships across decades and continents, and her ability to make others feel loved and included was one of her greatest gifts.
Shelley had an adventurous spirit, traveling the world with curiosity and courage. Her love for travel took her across continents, where she immersed herself in cultures, landscapes, and experiences that enriched and inspired her. Whether she was wandering through ancient cities or scuba diving into the vibrant underwater worlds she adored, Shelley embraced these adventures with wonder and joy.
Even in illness, Shelley remained a beacon of grace and courage. "If love and support could treat cancer, I wouldn't even need this surgery", Shelley stated in her first CaringBridge entry almost 3 years ago. Her strength and ability to find humor in the often difficult journey was inspiring. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, the family & friends she cherished, and the countless patients she cared for.
Shelley was preceded in death by her mother, Laura (Chornack) Taylor, and father-in-law, Jerry Weier. She leaves behind a world of people who loved her, including her husband, Joe, 3 sons, Max, Charlie, and Jack, her father, Don Taylor (wife Eileen), her siblings Deanna Wilson (husband Eric, children Meredith and Caleb) and Erik Taylor, her mother-in-law, Adrienne Weier, and in-laws Paul Weier (wife Jen Schulz), Dave Weier (wife Isabel, children Thalia, Anahi, Kaitlyn, and Junior), Steve Weier (wife Carissa, children Morgan and Madison), Jeff Weier (wife Erica Weston), Kristie Fristad (husband Lance, children AJ and Jake), Kathy Weier (husband Elliot Rauscher, daughter Juliette), Dan Weier (wife Robin, daughter Hazel), Lori Weier (husband Justin, children Jerrod, Amelia and Eloise), Lisa Bearth (husband Matthew, children Eva, Peter, Lily, James, and John), as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to list, but not forgotten.
Friends and family are welcome to Shelley’s Celebration of Life Gathering to be held at Hyland Hills Chalet in Bloomington, MN (8800 Chalet Road, Bloomington MN 55438) on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 5 until 9 PM, with program to take place at 7 PM.
