Scott Alan Racek, born January 9, 1956, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the age of 69, at his home in Lakeville, MN. He was the eldest of three sons born to Casey and Betty Racek and is survived by his son, Tom Racek; his brothers, Randy Racek (Karen) and Todd Racek (Lori); the mother of his son, Phyllis Cournan; and many dear friends and extended family.

Born in Minneapolis, Scott grew up in Burnsville, Minnesota, where he graduated from Burnsville Senior High School in 1974 with honors and as a state football champion. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College, where he earned Little All-American honors in football—not due to stature—and completed a degree in Criminal Justice while interning with the United States Marshals Service.

Scott had a lifelong passion for speed, fitness and food. He never encountered a car he could not modify, a sandwich he could not finish, or an object that he could not deadlift. In his youth, he rebuilt an old Army BSA motorcycle and began refurbishing a 1965 MGB, later enlisting his brother Randy’s help to complete it. He also proudly drove a 1968 red Corvette through high school and college, sparking a lifelong love of high-performance vehicles—on both land and water. He spent many summer days slalom skiing and piloting ski boats on Lake Minnetonka, Crosslake, and Lake Havasu.

Scott's distinguished law enforcement career began as a private investigator and later as a police officer for the City of Mound, Minnesota. He was then selected for one of the most elite roles in federal service: Special Agent in the United States Secret Service. During his tenure, he collaborated with multiple federal and local agencies, including the FBI, CIA, DEA, ATF, DHS, and numerous police departments. He traveled to over 80 countries, protecting U.S. presidents and foreign dignitaries from the Reagan administration through George W. Bush—and performing additional duties that have been redacted in the interest of national security.

While on assignment in Little Rock with then-Governor Bill Clinton, Scott met FBI agent Phyllis Cournan—his future wife. (We owe you one, Bill.) They married in November 1993 and welcomed their son, Tommy, in 1995. In 1998, Tommy was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a childhood cancer, prompting frequent hospitalizations at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. After Tommy’s remission in 2000, the family relocated to Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.

In 2002, after the onset of symptoms, Scott was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and retired from the Secret Service in 2003.

In retirement, Scott remained active and engaged—modifying cars, playing cards, writing a book, and enjoying time with friends. He worked part-time at motorcycle shops and car dealerships while continuing personal restoration projects. In 2013, he returned to Minnesota to be closer to family and spent his final years in care at Highview Hills Walker Assisted Living. After a courageous 26-year battle with Parkinson’s, Scott passed peacefully at that facility. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Walker Highview Hills and to Karen Racek for her tireless care and advocacy throughout Scott’s later years.

A celebration of life will be held on September 6 at Prince of Peace Church, 13801 Fairview Dr, Burnsville, MN 55337. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10 AM, followed by a Mass at 11 AM, luncheon at noon, and a car show in Scott’s honor at 1 PM in the church parking lot. All prized vehicles are welcome.
