John C. Graham, Jr. was born November 15, 1938 and died peacefully in Minneapolis on June 1, 2025 at age 86 after a long illness. In his last months he received incredibly compassionate and professional care from the staff of Grace Hospice.
John was raised in Bedford, NY and educated at St. Paul's School (Concord, New Hampshire) Williams College (Williamstown, Massachusetts) and Manhattan School of Music where he earned the Master of Music degree in music theory. His passion was Renaissance choral music which was the focus of his professional life as a teacher of choral music.
He taught at Rosemary Hall (Greenwich, Connecticut), Hawaii School for Girls (Honolulu) as well as private schools in New York, Connecticut and Maryland. He was a choral singer in church choirs wherever he lived. His interest in Compline began in Honolulu at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu and continued with his funding of Compline services at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John (Jack) and Polly Graham, brother Campbell (Sandy) Graham and sister Margot Graham Moncure.
He is survived by Sharon Kleckner, his wife of 24 years as well as nephews Eric Graham and lan Graham, and niece Paget Graham.
A memorial service will be held at St. Clement's Episcopal Church in St. Paul at a future date.
Memorials may be made to an animal humane society of your choosing. Cats were his special passion. St. Paul's School (Concord, New Hampshire) or The Mirandola Ensemble, a professional choral ensemble based in the Twin Cities, are other meaningful ways to honor John. A charity of your choosing is also welcome.
