Clyde E. Gruebele Obituary

Clyde E. Gruebele passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at St. Luke’s Hospital on June 11, 2025, after a brief illness.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the St. Luke’s ICU and medical team for their compassionate care during Clyde’s final days.

Born on April 18, 1960, in Superior, Wisconsin, to Lawrance and Alice (Walman) Gruebele, Clyde lived a life full of purpose and joy. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1978 and later earned a degree from WITC’s Construction program. Seeking opportunity, he relocated to Colorado, where he worked for Mortenson Construction, traveling to worksites in South Dakota, North Dakota, and California. He later joined Trane in Pueblo, Colorado, as a Quality Control specialist.

In 2010, Clyde returned to Wisconsin, working at Fraser Shipyard before finding a home at L&M Supply in Hayward, where he cherished his role as a Keyholder and the camaraderie of his work family.

Clyde took immense pride in building and remodeling homes. His own home, yard, and patio were sources of fulfillment and tranquility. An avid cook and griller, he loved tinkering on projects and sharing his generous spirit. Known for his calm demeanor and sharp sense of humor, Clyde was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and his alma mater, Northwestern High School’s football team.

Clyde is survived by his mother, Alice Christensen; sisters, Amanda (Andy) Vengrin and Marcy (Adam) Bennis; nieces and nephews, Hillary & Ken Torpen, Johannah (Nick) Kirchoff, Matthew (Marissa) Vengrin, Lydia Bennis, and Ivy Bennis; several great-nieces and nephews; and his lifelong love, Betts VanHolbeck, along with her cherished family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrance Gruebele, and stepfather, Cassius Christensen. He recently lost his faithful companion, & lapdog, Holly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Amnicon Town Hall on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Visitation begins at 2:00 PM, followed by a service at 3:00 PM, officiated by Pastor and dear friend Darrell Nelson. A BBQ will follow. In honor of Clyde’s passions, guests are invited to wear Green Bay Packers attire or red swoosh Nikes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northwestern High School Football Program, a cause close to Clyde’s heart.
