Joe "Jay" Antonovich November 12, 1953 – June 10, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Joe "Jay" Antonovich. Born on November 12, 1953, in Bismarck, North Dakota, Jay's incredible journey through life led him to the warm embrace of Alborn, Minnesota, where he spent his formative years. On June 10, 2025, Jay left us unexpectedly at home after a brief but brave battle with cancer.
Jay was a larger-than-life figure whose presence was impossible to ignore. His booming laugh, immense heart, and unforgettable spirit filled every room he entered. Graduating from Toivola-Meadowlands High School in 1972, Jay found his soulmate in Diane Sandstrom. Their 49 years of marriage were a testament to unwavering love, loyalty, and joy, as they raised a loving family and built a life together.
He worked as a steel worker at United Taconite. He always dreamed of spending his retirement by the lake, cherishing moments listening to good polka and Bluesfest music, and most of all enjoying evening pontoon rides with Diane. His passion for coaching and umpiring little league was well-known within the community. Jay was the epitome of a loving father and grandfather.
Jay is survived by his devoted wife Diane; brother Jeffrey Antonovich; children Joleen (Adam Maly) Antonovich and Christopher (Heather) Antonovich; and his beloved granddaughters Ariana Navarro and Lilly Antonovich. His life was enriched by a large extended family and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlene "Jean" and Joe Antonovich, and sister-in-law Mary (Jeff).
Jay lived his life loudly, loved deeply, and left a mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. While we will miss him immeasurably, we find solace in knowing he will always be our Spirit in the Sky.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Jay's life and sharing your stories and memories at the Meadowlands Community Center on July 20, 2025, from 1 pm to 5 pm. Lunch will be provided.
Thank you for being a part of Jay's extraordinary journey and for helping us honor his memory.
