Mary M Strickland Obituary
Mary left us on Monday, June 9th while listening to one of her favorite bands, The Beatles, playing softly in the background. Undoubtedly, she was directing a group of students enthusiastically singing along with her while she hollered "push"!
Mary was first and foremost, an educator.
For over forty years, she believed in empowering children to find and become their best selves. She accomplished this by tapping into the creative nature that resides within each and every one of us. It didn't matter what form that creative side took - music, dance, drawing, painting, writing or speaking. The important thing was that they met and embraced their inner creativity. And once they did, oh boy, watch out - it would take them to places they never dreamed of and gave them the confidence to accomplish great things.
Mary was kind, interested, eclectic, innovative, and unconventional.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Lance, who was also a teacher and very accomplished musician, her parents Bertil and Delta Martin and more dogs than you can possibly give smooches to. Mary was survived by a most grateful community at Annunciation Catholic School, hundreds of loving students and parents, and many, many friends whom she considered family.
