Obituary of Joyce Batdorf

Joyce Marie Batdorf (89) passed away peacefully surrounded with love June 5, 2025, in Centerville, MN.

Joyce was born to Maggie and Chris Shoenborn in Red Lake, MN on October 24, 1935. She grew up in Redby, MN, and moved to the Twin Cities as a young adult. After moving to the twin cities, Joyce worked at Minnetonka Moccasin for many years. She also helped run her husband’s trucking company as well as working for Control Data for several years, where she ultimately retired. Joyce was a hard worker, who would never seem to slow down, continuing after retirement doing PCA work well into her 70’s.

Joyce married her first husband, John Grayson, at 24 years old in Beltrami County. Joyce sadly lost John in 1970.

Joyce married her second husband, Herb Batdorf, at 36 years old in South Dakota. After 25 years of marriage, Joyce sadly lost Herb in 1996.

Joyce and Herb raised a special niece and nephew, Shelly and John. She was the last of 13 children to survive. She will be greatly missed by her niece Shelly Shoenborn-Barton (Donny), 4 special grandchildren, Alyssa, Michael, Kaytlyn, Shannon Barton and 2 great-granddaughters Addylan and Sophia, 2 stepdaughters Debbie (Bob) Probst and Terri (Wayne) Millard and their children Nicole, Jason, and Joseph, as well as many additional nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved her so.

She will be met in the spirit world by her parents, Maggie (Jackson) and Chris Shoenborn, Brothers: Elmer & Dennis Smith, Chris, Julius, George & Truman Shoenborn, Sisters: Christine Thunder, Arliss Czek, Lorna Fairbanks, Gloria Shoenborn and Melvina Jackson, nephew John Shoenborn as well as many other loved ones.

Services will be as follows: Celebration of Life at the Activities Center at Bunker Hills 06/29/2025 2-6pm in the Aspen Room at 550 Bunker Lake Blvd NW Andover, MN 55304. Graveside burial 07/12/2025 11am at the Redby, MN cemetery with Reverend Tom Pollock officiating, followed with a luncheon at the Redby Community Center.
