Obituary of Marvel Evelyn Hanse
With profound sadness we announce the passing of our loving and devoted mother, Marvel Evelyn Hanse, on June 5, 2025, at the age of 99.
A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at The Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina, MN. A private interment will take place at Fron Cemetery in Starbuck, MN.
Born December 26, 1925 in Starbuck, MN to Henry and Alice Larson, Mom was the eldest of five children. Married on June 27, 1946, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold Tinseth Hanse. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter Laura Elizabeth Hanse, sisters Adeline Moe, Frances Moen, Helen Hoverud, and brother Leland Larson.
She is survived by her five children, Gary (Mary) Hanse, Marjorie (Richard) Schmit, Joan (Mike) Matuzek, Larry (Deborah Batson) Hanse, and Dale (Judy) Hanse; grandchildren Brooke, Tony, Ryan, Jason, Kristi, Emily, Jacob, Heidi and Matthew; great grandchildren Brennon, Nolan, Caleb, Erik, Aaron, Colton, Miranda, Isla, Connor, Logan, and Callum.
Mom was first and foremost a dedicated wife and mother. She treasured her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished every moment with them. She made friends easily and was affectionately called “Marvelous” Marvel by many whose lives she touched.
While Mom loved all social events, she also enjoyed going for walks, good books and puzzles of any kind. Open to adventure, she traveled domestically on several occasions and readily embraced the opportunity of travel to Norway with her daughter and son-in-law, Marge and Rich. Proud of her independence, she managed incredibly well on her own and asked little of those around her.
Mom will be sorely missed by all who loved her, and she will always be remembered for her tenacity, wit, kindness and love of family and friends.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the staff of Mount Olivet Careview Home and Grace Hospice for their unwavering care, compassion and support throughout Mom’s five year stay and final days.
Memorials may be made to Mount Olivet Careview Home or Grace Hospice.
