Mary Jane (Hanlon) Whalen Obituary

WHALEN Mary Hanlon, Born near Birch Coulee, Minnesota, in August, 1924. Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday in Saint Paul, Minnesota at age 100. Survived by her four children, Mike, Tim, Nancy and Pat, six grand children, and was eagerly awaiting her first great-granddaughter’s birth this summer. Mary was proud to have fought fascism during WWII in the union factories of the Twin Cities, and actively continued resisting Trumpism to the end. Mary’s identity as an Irish-American was also a source of great pride – she was the last surviving member of the Ashland Avenue Guild of Saint Patrick. Later in life, Mary volunteered for many years in Merriam Park for Meals on Wheels. Saint Paul lost one of its true Irish matriarchs. Memorial service to be held Monday, June 9, 2025, 11:00 AM, at Cerenity Senior Care – Marian of Saint Paul. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Meals on Wheels of Ramsey County.
